Chapter 2: A Balanced Mission Strategy

Once a church has decided to become involved in missions, great care must be taken to keep a balance between its pastoral calling and its mission endeavour.

Missions should be so integrated into the life of the church that it becomes a "both and" rather than an "either or".

The Faith Promise Programme is a key in assisting the church to get this balance. If applied correctly, it has the ability to involve the whole congregation in praying for, giving to and sending out missionaries.

A balance must also be kept in the prayer and support of local and translocal church endeavours.

Sometimes, as a local church engages in its own mission endeavour, it feels that it must initiate all the strategy itself. This has led to a gross duplication of effort, and an amazing waste of finance.

The key here is to find out from God where He wants the church to be involved and then ascertain what is already happening in these areas. It is often found that amazing strategies already exist, of which the church could become a part.
